Upcycled art – The meaning of upcycling is to take a used or ordinary item and to creat something nicer than the original and of more value. We have done this with the 55 gallon steel drums that are used in all of our metal art wall décor.

We show pictures and a brief story of how our business went through the earthquake in Port au Prince, Haiti.
Recycled 55 gallon steel oil drums form the “canvas” for the creation of these amazing works of Haitian metl art. To begin, the drums have the tops and bottoms removed, using a hammer and chisel. These ends are used for smaller metal art sculptures. The drum is then stuffed with dried sugar cane or banana leaves and lit on fire to burn off any residue. When cool, it is flattened into a 34” x 72” metal work area. The design is now drawn on to the metal sheet with chalk. The artist proceeds to cut and hammer, with a nail and chisel, the design onto the steel drum “metal canvas”. All of the details of the piece are sculpted into a beautiful Haitian art wall hanging. It is then coated with a clear finish to add warmth and luster to the artistic design and to prevent rusting. Haitian steel drum metal art will be a real conversation piece in your home.
Haitian steel drum metal is an eco-friendly art used for decorative purposes in your home. These recycled metal sculptures can be used as wall hangings, both indoors and as outdoor decor in the garden – patio area. A variety of designs & themes are portrayed through the Haitian steel drum designs. Popular scenes are music and dance, nature, tree of life, celestial sun and moon designs, angels, mermaids and sea life scenes.
For maintenance, an extra coat of polyurethane varnish might be required each year or so, if the art pieces are used outdoors.
