Recycled 55 gallon steel oil drums form the “canvas” for the creation of these amazing works of art.  To begin, the drums have the tops and bottoms removed, using a hammer and chisel. These ends are used for smaller metal art sculptures. The drum is then stuffed with dried sugar cane or banana leaves and lit on fire to burn off any residue. When cool, it is flattened into a 34” x 72” metal work area. The design is now drawn on to the metal sheet with chalk. The artist proceeds to cut and hammer, with a chisel, the design onto the “metal canvas”. All of the details of the piece are sculpted into a beautiful Haitian art wall hanging. It is then coated with a clear finish to add warmth and luster to the artistic design and to prevent rusting. A real conversation piece for your home.
