Recycled 55 gallon steel oil drums form the “canvas” for the creation of these amazing works of art. To begin, the drums have the tops and bottoms removed, using a hammer and chisel. These ends are used for smaller metal art sculptures. The recycled steel drum is then stuffed with dried sugar cane or banana leaves and lit on fire to burn off any residue. When cool, the oil drum is flattened into a 34” x 72” metal work area. The tree of life or bird design is now drawn on to the metal sheet with chalk. The artist proceeds to cut and hammer, with a chisel, the design onto the “metal canvas”. All of the details of the decorative metal art piece are sculpted into a beautiful Haitian art metal wall hanging. It is then coated with a clear finish to add warmth and luster to the artistic design and to prevent rusting. A real conversation piece for your home or as metal yard art for your patio or garden area.
